It’s hard to keep up with everything in the genealogy world. New records get released it seems every day somewhere in the world. Webinars, conferences, society meetings, and breakthroughs in technology. The new and exciting research in DNA. It can make your head spin. Nobody can be an expert in everything. Following blogs can be a great way to try and stay on top of things, and learn something new from someone who’s picked a different “niche” than you. These are the blogs I follow. Amy Johnson Crow A professional genealogist, Amy Johnson Crow writes great posts about methodology. Her series 31 Days to Better Genealogy is one you should definitely look at.
Canada’s Anglo-Celtic Connections John D Reid is the guru of Canadian genealogy blogging. The rest of us aspire to be like him. An expert in our UK roots, his blog has been around since 2006.
Canadian Historical Association This link will take you to their section on Canadian History blogs. I’ve looked at a few of them, and they look very well done.
Canadian History Timeline This page lists a historical event in Canada every day of the year. It doesn’t just concentrate on battles and politics. You can find entries for sports and entertainment as well. If it relates to Canada, then it’s listed.
Genealogy a la Carte Gail Dever’s blog is the best place to keep up to date on genealogy news for Canadian researchers. I don’t know how she manages to stay on top of it all.
Genealogy: Beyond the BMD As the title suggests, Diane Nolan is great for finding those resources that help you to “flesh out” your ancestor’s life.
Genealogy Canada Elizabeth Lapointe writes about all things to do with Canadian genealogy, history, and our heritage. She also has the website www.genealogycanada.com.
Scottish Genealogy Tips and Tidbits Christine Woodcock is one of the best people to go to for those tracing Scottish ancestry. She also runs the successful Genealogy Tours of Scotland, organizing research trips to Scotland.
Michigan Family Trails Diane Gould Hall discusses her Canadian and Michigan roots. She’s also an expert at using Legacy Family Tree Software.
Olive Tree Genealogy Lorine McGinnis Schulze is another Canadian blogging guru. She runs several blogs, websites, founded a Facebook group for bloggers, and somewhere finds the time to write books. I get tired just reading everything she’s involved with!
Uk to Canada Genealogy Penny Allen is a Canadian living in the UK, and helps people with “Linking your UK Ancestors to Canadian Genealogy resources”.
Unwritten Histories Andrea Eidinger is a Canadian historian that writes about Canadian history. Her weekly Canadian History Roundup always teaches me something new.
War of 1812 Canadian Stories Fred Blair provides information and stories on life in Canada during the War of 1812. It\’s a great read for anyone interested in the time period.
